Dealer Experience

Ok guys....heres a question for you....most of you probably have seen my other post about my bad ball joint at 42000 miles...

So i emailed ford about it and they told me to call the service manager at my dealership...So i did...and he said bring it in, there will be a charge not to exceed 45 dollars and he'd see if ford would kick in anything to have it repaired....

Is it normal for ford to take care of people out of warranty....or am i likely going to take it in, and have him tell me theres nothign they can do but charge me for it???

Well thats what i'm wondering....except I asked him twice....is there a likely chance ford will cover it...and he said yes twice.....Its why i'm torn....do i pay them another 45 bucks to look at it and say...yep..its bad..and ford won't cover it.....

Or do i go out and spend the 200 bucks to fix it myself (and get it aligned) when theres a chance they might come through......

I'm really just wondering if anyones had a similar experience

take it in

they must provide you a written estimate of the repairs to be performed. You authorize that estimate, and only that. Nothing else.

any overages or additional repairs/labor must first be authorized by you. If they do the work without your "okay", then the repair isn't your problem.

gotta love the consumer protection laws.

btw, I'd trust the Manager. Dealerships keep the good customers they can. They probably know you and your family. A $200 in the pocket for them is nothing compared to even 1 person in your family buying just 1 additional car from them later on down the road

I think thats the approach i'm going to take, and if all else fails...i'll point out i was just in last week test driving an 09 and that we've bought 75,000 worth of trucks in the last three years....hopefully that helps...LOL

When I bought my truck, the factory warrany was out. It started to run rough about a month later. I paid $100 the first trip for them to replace a coil pack. That repair lasted all of 3 days so after it bieng in the shop for 27 days, they replaced both cats, all plugs/coils, and fuel pump/filter. I never paid another dime. They said Ford covered the cats (which were $1200 just for parts), and I never got a bill for the remainder. Not sure if the dealer was able to get Ford to cover it, ot if they just eat it. I can't imagine them eating the loss for the other parts. All I know is I didn't get a bill, so I asked no questions!

If you've dealt with this dealer before and they've done you right before, take it in. I'd give them the benefit of the doubt until they shaft me once. Then they'd never get another dime or good reference out of me.

Well the trucks at the dealer, and they're going to cover about half....total bill for an upper control arm and alignment is 125....I guess I can't complain too much about that...
