It can be a fairly small inconvenience and well worth it!
Well said Sheldon. Its a small inconvience but like Sherm said, the greeting I get when I come home makes every bit of it worthwhile. We like to leave our dog (Siberian Husky/Shepard cross) with friends as she is a real people dog. Our neighbors love her even though they are not animal people. She would probably lick anyone to death who came into the house uninvited but her size is enough to intimidate anyone who doesn't know her. And she would surprise them as she isn't much for barking, so they would already be in the house before they knew she was there! We had thought of getting a Shepard or Rotti when we moved out to the country to stay outside but we both know it wouldn't have been an outdoor guard dog for long.....
We got our dog from the SPCA as well. For that matter even the cats are from there. But I'm a sucker for animals so I'm not allowed to go there to drop off donations....
Yes they can tie you down. One dog is not so bad. If you go on a holiday or trip you usually can take one dog along or two. We have 3 and 3 cats. So the holiday thing is scratched. Not everywhere you go wants you to come with 3 dogs.
But I sure love coming home to them. I get home and as soon as I'm in the house they are banging the front door to get to me. The front door is to a fenced Kennel for them. Once they greet me the want back outside to announce he's home.
Foster and Sadie always want to be with me where ever I'm working around the acreage. If I'm at the shop. They want to be there also.
I love my dogs. I love the Blue Heelers.
