I think it's a free-for-all!
Just kidding. I'm sure Ken keeps an eye on things, and those of us who have been here awhile will report a post which is in violation of the guidelines.
No one wants things to get too out of line.
Who knows anything about transmissions? They either work or they don't. The tranny sits underneath where it can't be seen. I can work on the engine but transmissions are in a different world. I have had many cars/trucks/motorcycles and none of them ever had transmission problems. just blessed I guess. I do believe that with proper instructions and parts anyone can rebuild one. This is just my opinion and I admit to knowing nothing about transmissions. I want to learn how to rebuild my c6 for I feel soon we are going to be doing our own rebuilding on these wonderful long life trucks;-)
From my experience, moderating has really nothing to do with knowledge on the subject of that particular board. Generally a moderator is a "baby sitter," if you will. They make sure the threads aren't in violation of any laws or rules and make recommendations/removals concerning the allowing of certain postings or the repremanding/banning of posters. It also takes a lot of time to check peoples postings and review all the threads, not a real hard job, but very time consuming.
Perhaps if you have the time, agree with Ken's rules, and become a member of FTE (if you're not) you can moderate this board.
I only meet two of those conditions, I don't have the time.
Forums without moderators do get read by the mods. You just never know it unless we leave a post.
Kerry is correct. Moderator's need not be an expert on the subject, but must have the enthusiasm and the time to read all the topics as they get posted.
Having a moderator does not guarantee that your questions will get replies. But a well moderated forum will build community and that greatly increases the exchange of information.
All the moderators are friendly and helpful, so feel free to contact any one of us if you have questions about using the forums.
