need some help fella's

anyone know where i can find the specifications / info on the factory spindles on my 53 ??? i'm searching for bearings to accomodate the use of the 88 vics disc brakes , and found that outer bearings , set 2 from timken , A2 from federal mogul , are an perfect fit , but i need the specs to attack the inner search from a fresh perspective and hopefully make some progress . trying to do it without adapters or spacers , but ................ thanx guys 'n' gals !!!!!!!!

By any chance do you have the old bearings and races to take the numbers off of? Probably already thought of that. I might call Timken and give them the inner hub diameter and inner spindle diameter, set in depth, and ask them to crank you out a number.

OR, take the numbers off the stock 53 bearing and race, and the stock numbers of the Vicky bearing and race, and let them look up the specs/dimensions on each and try to match those to a single bearing set.

That may not help much but at least we can bump this back up!

Good luck!

I'm with Julie. Should be able to measure the diameters. We have a half way decent crew here at our local NAPA, and they are pretty good about being able to take the measurements you need and search for bearing/race set that will accomodate the assembly. Otherwise, call up the manufacturers, and see what they can come up with. Most are pretty good with customer service, if you have numbers or specs in front of you.

welp i had all the info you all were talking about , and was getting nowhere seemingly . well i thought since the spindle changes diameter maybe i could figure out where and measure etc. from the diagrams { no micrometers or calipers etc. they were stolen with another 25,000 or so in tools from my grandma's garage years ago . i didn't live there so the insurance companies , mine and hers used that as an excuse not to pay up ! } .well anyway i found out through just plain going blind , and losing my grasp on reality from peering at the putor screen too long , hades i was seeing naked women dancing in the text of timkens catalogs if that tells ya anything , i have discovered this : set 2 or a-2 by federal mogul will fit the outer spindle and the 88 vic assemblies like they are sposed to be there . it's used on ford trucks and cars for years and on all sorts of models . the inners were giving me fits !!!!! well i found this : use the 53 bearing 14130 as it obviously fits , and a race no. 15244 for 46-47 nash's { !!!!?????} as it is the right outer diameter and radius etc. according to the books , and walla . now all i will probably have to do is make up a spacer to move the assembly out to line up with the calipers ..... maybe !!!!!!!! so geuss what we have a new source of parts for the ifs , discs and diffs , steering etc ... 78-91 ltd's , crown vics , and merc marquis . they are about to become an endangered species i think

Note: 1979/2002 LTD/Crown Vics & Mercury Grand Marquis are the same.

1973/78 is the older body style.

Note again: The 1979 LTD II is not a LTD. It's an entirely different car!

In 2003, Ford began using rack and pinion steering on these two cars.

The 1980/2002 Lincoln Town Car is also the same.

1979: That's how old these three platforms are.

btw: You tell me what bearings you want to use, I can give you the Bearing Industry part numbers...what auto parts stores go by.

The 1961 and later Ford truck parts catalogs have cross reference lists: Ford to Manufacturers part numbers / Manufacturer to Ford part numbers.

These lists also cross over seals, U-joints...you name it.

Try taking all you bearing info and numbers to a place that specializes in bearings, not an auto parts place. Just GOOGLE "bearings" and then look and see if any of the specialty companies listed have a place near you. Most of those places will mic the size of the bearings you have and look up what you need by size.

Later Man...

thanx for the extra info there bill !! and dave we got illinois bearing about 2 miles from the house so with the info i got i'll get what i need from some source . i forgot to mention too that besides timken , i was also all over federal mogul's site as that's where i found the race and it's figures . i am going to have to make a shim / sleeve to make up for a smallgap between the race and vic's assembly .... maybe . i got a son in law with a small machine shop as he works for his dad who has heavy equipment and they make and repair lots of it themselves , and ron his dad is a machinist and i got old freind { late 60's now } bud jenkins the resident rocket scientidst so it's a no brainer now . maybe i'm too much of a tight a-- , stubborn or whatever but i like to use what i have , especially free stuff , and saving money for other things !!! LATER GUY'S IM OFF TO WORK AGAIN ..........
