I just rebuilt my edelbrock performer carb and now it continues to flood. I checked the float levels and double checked the measurements of 7/16 and 15/16. Engine will run for a few minutes and then die. When air cleaner is removed carb is full of gasoline. I would appreciate any help.
the metering rods sit in a replaceable brass orifice. the rod moving up and down in this bore controls fuel flow. If one forgets to reinstall them youll be runing a bit rich.

Two posabilities, either you got to much fuel pressure, or you have a needle and seat problem. If the fuel system is the same as before the rebuild, then take out the needle and seat inspect and probably just replace them.
The metering rods wouldn't cause this problem, they would only cause it to run way rich, but not flood over.
If you are sure your setting the float level right, you should either lower it to see what happens. And/Or get some new needle/seats you may have a bad one.
Just went for a drive and everything worked great until engine started to bog down at 40 mph and began to smell gas. Could the culprit be in the accelerator pump??? The reason that I ask is because as my wife and I were broke down on the side of the road with me under the hood I noticed gas squirting fron the top of the accelerator pump. Probably just the seal but I didn't know if this would cause flooding or not.
Your saying fuel is comming out where the fuel pump plunger comes out the top. If so that is a sure sign that the foat/fuel level is to high. So again, you have a needle/seat problem get some new ones. This has nothing to do with the accelerator pump itself.
I reset the float measurements at the 7/16 and 15/16 drop like instructed again today, they were a little off but not much. I cut a piece of cardboard to the measurements and adjusted until it slid in perfectly then remeasured the cardbord to be certain. Could these measurements be off by manufacture guidlines?
The needle and seats have been changed twice, both sets were brand new. The chances of getting two bad sets are slim to none. There is no gas in the floats and the air horn is being turned upside-down when measuring the float height.
Well that's interesting, some how fuel is getting into the bowl. Maybe the area around the seat or fuel fittings is cracked or leaking. Maybe it's time to take a look at fuel pressure.
Fuel pressure test read 5 1/2 psi at all time with no variance. Just ordered some new floats and they should be here in a couple days. Thanks for your help I appreciate it since I have never experienced anything like this.
