king ranch, glad to hear that you have an interested and concerned dealer that wants to find the problem. I was all set to replace my fuel filters just to see if it helped but I am going to wait and see what results you see.
I will keep you posted!! Hopefully it's the trick?!?!
I have been dealing with this poor milage since the second week of owning my 08 F350. It started out week #1 19.5 mpg, week #2 16.5, 3 months 14mpg etc. now 2 years and some change later 10mpg or less. If I tow I get 6-7mpg, supper cool huh. I change the oil at around 7500 miles and always change the fuel filters at the same time. Never helps anything. Also keep the air filter cleaned as well. Dealers and ford told me that is normal (as there is no EPS fuel milage rating) and to go pound sand.
I now have 45,500 miles on this truck and the more miles I put on the worse milage I get.
Have tried different tuners and such no mileage increase just moderate power increase. Not what it should be. And all of the up dates. nothing works on my truck.
hopefully your dealer will find something out that will help the rest of us as well.
What kills me is one of my work trucks is a'08 6.4L F350 4X4 LWB CC. I can run it down the road at 70 and get about 17 mpg. I can run it at 80 and get 15 mpg. My personal truck is 08 6.4L F250 SWB CC and the best I can get is 14.5 at 70 mpg. Things go to hell in a handbag after that!
Just crazy how the mileages vary on all of the different trucks here.
Soon as I hit 36K miles, warranty or no...that frickin' DPF is coming off!

I have to agree once the warranty is done I too am highly considering the removal of the DPF. This all boils down to the wonderful (NOT) Green peace and EPA agencies. by the way Your signature picture cracks me up!!
I thought I might swtich from 4.10s to 3:73s and see what happens. I was able to tow my fifth wheel and boat with my 05 250 just fine and it had 3:73s. I just take it easy on starts. This week not going over 60 mph I started getting 13.5 - 13.8 unloaded. Haven't pulled anything yet since I only have 3200 miles on it.
IF my warranty were over today I would consider a tuner and DPF removal for the MPG. However I still have over 2 years till I can even consider that so I am hopeful that there may be new ways to achieve the same result between now and then.

I had the 4.88 in my F450, I whiched to 3.73. It helped the milage and pulls fine, I don't think it would be worth it to switch from 4.10 to 3.73.
The only reason I have thought of going from 4:10 to 3:73 is because I often don't go over 65 mph. I noticed when I drove an 09 F350 single that the RPM's were below 2000 rpm @ 65 mph. With the 4:10 on my dually @ 65 mph I'm a little above 2200 rpm and it seems that 2000 rpm is the magic number for descent mph.
What really affects mpg is throttle and boost, not engine rpm.
That being said, I have had 2 08's with 6.4, an 05 with 6.0, and 2 03's with the 7.3.
Great mpg just isn't part of the program. I have had too many trucks towing all different kinds of trailers, and none got anywhere near the fantastic mpg claims I've seen on these forums.
My current 08 DRW gets 9 mpg in town and 13 highway unloaded, and 6-7 mpg towing my 5th wheel at 70mph on the highway. I consider this a big upgrade from my 05 6.0, which got 5.4 mpg on the highway towing. (I always go 70mph and use the cruise control)
I did all the stuff, took it to the dealer, reflashed, checked all the sensors, changed the oil to synthetic, filters, blah blah blah.
Nothing is wrong with my current truck, nothing was wrong with my 05. They all ran great.
My advice is to leave the display on miles to empty, and stop obsessing about mpg. It is a path to nowhere, and will cause you nothing but pain, despair and never ending woe.
Searching for 20+ mpg from these trucks is like finding the perfect wife--every time you think you have found the answer a better question walks around the corner.
also noticed a drop in mpg. not as drastic as yours.. the lie o meter used to averge about 13.3 - 14 per tank.. ever since the reflash its never been higher than 12.8... taking it in for the 30k service. im hoping some fresh fluids will revidalize the truck!
Sorry for the late report back. I am back from Moab. Here are my findings... Going over I traveled HWY 50 over Monarch Pass to Montrose CO. and then on to Grand Junction, CO I fueled up in Grand Junction at a Diamond Shamrock. When we fueled the MPG was hand checked at 8.7 and electronically at 9.1. My speed varied from 50 - 80.
On the return trip I traveled I-70 over to C-470 and finally to I-25. My Speed was 70. Hand Calculated MPG was 10.4 and electronically at 11.2.
Going out was dissapointing however returning was much better. I think speed really plays a role in proper MPG. I am going to need to get my truck and toys weighed together so I know what I am dealing with. I know that my truck weighs in at 9100 lbs. and I pulled 2 Polaris rangers to Moab and they weigh 1300 lbs. each, I am not sure what my trailer weighs though. I will let you all know.
king ranch, I'm going to through something out here... have you checked your mileage on the truck compared to a gps? Your bigger tires are covering more ground per revolution than the smaller tires. Your miles traveled may not be correct. When I replaced my 17's with 20's I found that according to my gps the MPH was off 5 or 6 MPH at 60 to 65 MPH. I zeroed my trip meter on the truck and reset my trip thing on my gps and found that 100 miles traveled according to the truck came out 108 miles on the gps. You may be getting more MPG's than you realize.

You may be quite right! I have put my truck on GPS and I am 5 MPH faster than what the speedo shows. This also might be why I am getting better fuel mileage at the slower driving limits. Thanks for your input. It really makes since.
