Front diff install tips please

The front diff for my '92 F150 is at the shop getting new gears. When I get it back what should I use for a gasket? When I took it apart Ford seemed to use a sealant rather than cork, kind of suprising or it had been done before. Would it be too much of a pain to put it back onto the axle tube when the tubes mounted to the truck or shall I leave it out for now? Any preffrences on gear lube (mobil one, royal purple, brand X)?

I don't believe Ford uses a gasket on these, just RTV. You'll have to mount the passenger side inner half shaft since it's retained with a C-clip inside the diff, but don't try installing the outer axle pieces until you have the diff mounted, makes it a bit hard to handle IMO. Having a second hand to thread the bolts is all but necessary unless you have a lift.

Conanski is right, Ford did not use a gasket. The RTV is all you need. Make sure you get a good bead on both sides of all the holes and it will seal up nice and tight.
