uh,oh- this cant be good. anyway, i,m driving and the transfer case slip's out of 2w high, there is the sound of gears grinding, when i bring the truck to a stop, i am able to shift the transfer back into 2WH. only to have it happen again. its a 1987 F-250, 5sp man. whats up with that. or any suggestions as to jury rig it to get home. thanks
How far away from home are you? Have someone hold the lever in 2HI while you drive it home if you're not too far out (say 25 or so miles). Did it drop out of 2 hi when you let up on the gas (inertial difference) or did it just pop out while cruising (no idea what would cause that unless it was a jarring bump)?
I know the new process 208 has plastic wear pads on the shift forks that wear out. I had this happen on a couple of my trucks, The darn thing kept popping out of gear.

Will it stay in 4-hi? If it will, and you have manual hubs, unlock 'em and put it in 4-hi, and it'll get you home without hurting anything any worse than it already is...
