I've done the CCV mod, and i'm currently building a recovery tank. Right now i just have it coming out near the tranny.
i notice that it does smoke quite a bit, so in the recovery tank i'm going to put some filter material (spun polyester).
My question is, how much smoke is too much? is a lot of smoke a bad sign? The oil was changed less than 500 miles ago, and looks new/clean on the dipstick.
I can sure understand why everything was dirtied by this.
It depends on which brand of oil you use too. When I first got my truck the ccv smoked and the smell was much more pronounced. Now that I am running Rotella Dino, the smell is minimum and no smoke...

ok, it is whitish (gray/blue i guess, not black) and it is steady. it is dino but not rotella (was done at shell lube place, right before i bought truck). I notice some smell. (I'm only concerned of the smell because i have a camper. at least it only smokes when it's running. if i have to run it to charge batteries, i'll have to close camper windows, or get some kind of an extended hose... now i'm thinking "camper-based mods"
