are you building a competition mud truck? daily driver? weekend warrior?
how much does it weigh
do you want to keep the stock crappy heads? stock fuel injection or carb/mass air
It's a weekend worrior & daily driver. I don't wan't to spend too much on it. I was thinking or around $7,000 within the next 3 years or so. I want to put on 33" - 35" tires with 4.10 or 4.56 gears and a 4" - 6" lift kit. The truck is a 90' F150 supercab. I was thinking of aluminum heads, but idk. I'm going to college next year and i'm hoping to do all the work at the college's campus. I'm going for diesel tech. so i could do all the work there.
if you want aluminum heads the trickflow twisted wedge are probably the best buy for the money or the afr heads
i don't know about the induction i don't fool around with fuel injection and i carbed my truck
do you want it to run on pump gas? what octane? the higher the octane the higher you can get your compression and then the more power you will make
before you chose your cam you will want to know what heads you are going to use and what compression you want
a set of DO0E heads might work for you- they are cheaper than aluminum heads and factory ford performance heads
do you have to pass emissions?
headers, exhaust, and roller rockers are a given when building a motor for performance
with a manual trans you could carb it and get rid of the computer (involves getting a new distributor intake manifold, carb, fuel pressure regulator, -an braided line, and an aircleaner) or you could go to mass air which is a little cheaper i beleive
you could go with a roller cam but you realize that if you are building a motor for low end torque you are sacrafising top end horsepower usually
your stock crank and stock rods will support around 500hp without any problems but if you want more than like 550hp i would get a set of h-beam rods and forged pistons are a must for any performance build it's cheap insurance and stupid imho to go with anything other than forged pistons for performance motors
and also by the time you get your rods redone and new bolts put in them you could practically buy a new set of rods-at least at the place that does my rods it's $20 per rod for resizing and good arp bolts are between 80-300 soooo......and don't skimp on your bolts for the rods get the best bolts you can afford
sounds like a good combo but your rods have 3/8ths bolts stock if they are 351 rods but definatly get some arp rod bolts
