Rear Seat?

I have a 2004 Merc. Mountaineer and the rear middle seat lifts up for storage, but the strap broke and now I can't get the seat up. I need some ideas on how to get this up. Thanks.

Some times you can wedge your hand down between the cushion and the sidewall it sits in to get on the other side of it and pull it out.

I have tried prying on it and pulling on it and it just won't open.

Sorry, I think I misread your question. Try to get to where the strap was connected and see if you can get ahold of the tab or lever that the strap was attached to and then pull it in the direction you would pull the strap. The strap probably pulled on a lever that released a latch so the seat could be pulled up. Maybe try a little downward pressure on the seat as you move the lever, might help the latch release easier.
