well i have a 73 f250 heavy dudy,and it has the closed knuckle dana 44.now im woundering if there is anyone out there that can tell me i can put a newer dana 44 with disk breaks and balljoints, i found one but it seams that updated front end is wider by 1 inch well any one ran into this i wound realy like to gat my baby back on the road
We put these disc brake axles under early trucks all of the time.
You can use the 76 low pinion axle and this will be a exact bolt in deal, or you can use the later high pinion axle, but the front axle will have to be shortened.
You must change the brake components as well. The power brake, master and prop valve is a plus.
The same is true for the D60F.
Steering becomes only a little bit is a concern, but is easily taken care of.
Do you plan on using the hydro assist or will you be upgrading to the integral power steering at this time too?

I had recalled the 77-79 HP axles being pretty much a bolt in deal.
