torque converter/trans

2000 ex 7.3 130k mi. bought it last year to replace suburban diesel.. excursion is slow.. i thought it would have more power. shifts fine. but slow.. has more power when in o/d and converter locks up. ive heard other say they are fast/lots of power. does this sound like converter is toast? or ??? thanks
