Well, it sounds like either too much preload, or lack of break in lube on the lifters. Sorry to hear that. It's not very often that a set of lifters goes out at break in, unless something wasn't done quite right. I know there were a few companies experiencing bad batches of metals back in the 90's, but that issue has been dealt with. How are you seting your preload?

when i set the lash i followed comp cams instructions:just as the exaust starts to open adjust the intake, let exaust open close and adust exaust. on each cyl. then i went with 3/4 turn and locked the rocker. to prime th lifters i soaked them for a day in oil, then pushed then with a rod tho make sure they primed and then installed them, while on the stand i set the valves then ran the oil pump with the drill and turned the motor over by hand till the oil came out of the top of the rods. kept going for couple min just to be sure. let sit over night. then checked lifters. seemed to keep prime. added break in oil sup. comps own brand. then checked the valves next day just to be precise and 5 lifters are soft /not holding there prime.

No, you just had to go and be original.....Joe or Don may be able to shed some light, I have NEVER encountered this.

You say you added oil supplement. Did you cover the ntire cam and the bottom of the lifters with the break in compound? When installing the cam, you NEED to wipe all the lobes with break in compound, install it, and then cover the bottoms of every lifter with break in compound. You CANNOT just add break in supplement to the engine oil. You will kill the cam and lifters every time, if you don't cover them during install. Unless I am missing something, according to your description, that seems to be what went wrong. Get back to me Mike, and we can figure this thing out. I just finished building a 12 sec Sportman car yesterday..... started with an empty block at 8:30 a.m, assembled the rotating assembly, by 9:30.....went out on an accident call, got back by 10:45... finsished assembling the entire engine by 2:00, while taking a hour lunch, and had the car running by 5:00.
