I own a '03 F-350,6.0L, I have a 3rd battery mounted inside a truck box that I use to power a 1800W power inverter. How do I connect this battery to the main batterys to keep it charged? I plan to install a switch on the 3rd battery so as not to discharge the host battery when the inverter is in use. Any help would be greatly appreciated...Thanks...Ro
I have a similar situation. I have a third battery that runs a 12 volt air compressor. I had asked local ford/rv dealer and was told the wiring loom inside the drivers side frame rail has an orange wire that is hot while running and is no voltage with key off. I tied into this wire and sent it to charge 3rd battery. Grounded third battery back to frame rail. This is on a 2008 F350 Crew Cab 4X4. Not sure what color wire would be on your 2003.
You can also go buy a battery isolator and wire it to your truck. It is just a diode that allows the battery to to be charged but does not allow voltage to comne from thr other two batteries. Its simple they come with directions. The only thing you need to know is you alternator amperage then buy an isloator with the same amperage or more than the alternator. Basically it goes between the two batteries and the third battery.
