Swapping an E40D for a 5 Speed
The E40D is dead and I can't find one at a local Junk Yard that looks the same as mine. The ones I found in a 93-94 have different Shifter Linkage and the transfer cases even look different.
If I have someone telling me that I can swap an E40D from a 93 or 94 into my 91 and how to make the linkage work then that's what I intend to do. However I have a perfect Donor truck for a 5 speed swap out.
Donor truck is a 1991 F150 4x4 with a 5 speed. My question's are:
Can I swap in a newer E40D from a 93/94 truck and what kind of issues could I encounter?
And what am I going to run into if I swap out for a 5 speed? Such as the computer complaining about no Electronic Transmission attached at the other end.
I have the donor truck so I will need to Pull Transmission, Transfer Case, Drive Shafts, Slave cylinder etc, Peddle Assembly, and flywheel, Correct? Anything else?
I really am leaning toward the 5 speed swap as I don't want to rip this E40D back out again if something else goes wrong. But I'm still open to go back either way. Any thoughts would be a huge help.
Ever consider having the E4OD rebuilt? No trustworthy shops around? The swap is LOTS of work, consider the cost of your time as well as the parts.
Heck, you might even get a warranty....
A junk yard transmission (you pull it type place) with a 90 day warranty is 109.98
The 94 I was looking at is wreaked in the front end.
