highboy 460 swap
Mike
1975 was the first year for a 460 Econoline. 1969/74 Econolines are a different design, the largest engine available was the 302.
1975/77 Econolines have round headlamps, 1978/91's have rectangular headlamps.
The two 460 A/C idler pulleys are the same.
The vibration damper/flywheel might be the same, they might not be...if the Econoline is a 1979 or later.
There were two different 1979 460's. One engine used a weighted spacer, one did not. The block casting numbers will be different.
D1VE-6015-AB was used from 1971 thru 1978 and on some 1979's.
D9TE-6015-AB was used on some 1979's, and thru 1986.
The flywheel and vibration damper must match the specific casting numbers.
Waterpump pulley's, P/S pulley's, the outer pulleys on the crank might be the same, they might not be the same...it all depends on what year that 460 Econoline is.
The A/C compressor used in 1973/76 Birds (Lincoln Mark IV's, some LTD's) is a Frigid-Aire swash plate design, and is not compatible with the York compressors used in other vehicles.
The A/C may not be any good....if any of the hoses have been removed, if any parts have been removed where freon is a factor.
Once outside air gets into the compressor, condenser, dryer tank or expansion valve, the entire system has to be evacuated within several weeks...otherwise you can kiss these parts goodbye.
