I went to get a quote on some new tires for my 05 F-450, 225-70-19.5 it's a 4x4 so I wanted traction all the way around. Mine have 41000 miles on them but are still looking good. I figure I'll need new ones before winter comes. The local Les Schwab wanted $2200 for 6 new TOYO'S thought I was gonna pass-out. What kind of tires does any body else run and what did you pay for them? Thanks Scott
That price seems way to high to me. I have been looking around at getting new tires for my 05 F250 SRW myself and was quoted $950 at schwabs for the TOYO Open Country 285-70-17's, and $850 for the NITTO Terra Grappler 295-70-17's at discount tire. The only way I would see the price being that high is if the ones you are looking at are a special order.
Totally different kind of tire..... Like comparing passenger tires to pick up tires....f250 to f450..... I'm not sure but 19.5 are a lot higher load rated tires. Did you try to get a quote from discount tire on this site?
Well, most of us are not running 19.5" tires, and you need 6 of them. I found Michelin L/R F in that size for $325 each x 6 = $1,950. And that did not include any services. I didn't find a Toyo price, but for an AT tire they are probably similar.
I found Continental L/R G for $239 each. But that's not a traction tire. Those are Tire Rack prices, so you have to add shipping and installation.
So, your quote might not be unreasonable depending on the product.
Lubbockguy your right !totally different tire, these are 12 ply and there are not alot of options in a 19.5. Discount tire in my area can't even mount a 19.5 tire
One of the problems I had when I first went to buy tires for my 03 F-450 4x4 was finding someone who could or would mount and balance them. Seems they could either do one or the other but not both...unless I went to a commercial big truck tire shop.
I covered the balance problem by purchasing Centramatic Wheel Balance Rings. My local Discount Tire shop finally gave in and did the mounting. At first they said they couldn't do them but later gave it a try and had no problems.
As for tires I went with Kumho tires all around, they had a good aggressive tread. Not any more noise than BFG all terrain tires. They wore great.
I think I'll just stick to the Les Schwab toyo's. If I run 150 miles down the highway to Oregon I'll save $200 on sales tax. And it's real hard to beat their service, and their all over my area of travel
