Been talking with another gearhead at work about what sort of "odd-rod"/ rat-rod can be built. My rule was that it had to still be a DT466(like the one I "WAS" going to do with that Super Duty. I was thinking a Tbucket, but that's not weather friendly. He said a Model A, or 32-ish. It kinda needed to be old as to have the engine exposed, and ability to extend the hood a few yards. Ok, what kind of frame will hold it? Probably have to do 2X4 tubing. Then the axles, what's going to live under a 1400 pound engine? To fit the size, I was thinking a 48-53 F1-F3 axle. It's skinny, and solid, and would fit the look. I would likely use the Allison trans I have in my garage, an AT545(4 spd, non OD, like a beefy C6). Rear axle would probably be a built 9" or GM 14 bolt. Doesnt have to be too strong, cuz it'll break traction too easy.
Why go so big? well....haven't you seen a blown big block in a 32? Similar idea.
That's all fine & dandy, but where's the truck? Where's the engine? What about funds/ budget? Your stock drive train aint gonna hold up. I'm thinking Deuce & a half axles(Rockwells) and an F800 tilt front end.

No, no, no...If it is going into anybody's truck it will be my '85 Ranger! Bolt it to the Toyo Kogyo tranny, drop the hammer and place bets on which one will blow up first, the tranny or the 7 inch rear end?
