I want to add a manual switch to turn on the fuel pump sometime when i go to start the truck the fuel pump doesnt kick on sometimes it doesnt do it for months but other times like today i couldn't get it started for 15mins. anone have a wiring schematic for the fuel system. What wires i need to tie into under the dash?
When the pump does not come on, will the truck start for a couple of seconds and then die, or does it just crank with no start?
Power is controlled by the PCM, and odds are, if the fuel pump does not come on, other things are not working either. Does the WTS light come on and go off when the pump does not come on? Sounds kind of like the PCM relay is sticking or there may be a wiring issue.
My guess is if you wired a hot lead to the fuel pump, the truck still would not start when this happened. If you don't hear the pump come on, there's no point in trying to start. Just turn the key back off, then on again until you hear the pump kick in. No sense in running down the batteries.
Another trick to try when the pump does not come on is to unplug and plug back in the PCM relay until you hear things power up. Of course fighting an issue that shows up once every few months will not be fun, but here's a place to start.
