Limited Slip Maintenance
I have a 1984 F250 Diesel 4x4 with limited slip in the rear axle, which I believe is a Dana 60. The limited slip unit has never been serviced to my knowlege. Is there any special maintenance that needs to be performed to keep it working properly? Thanks.

Only thing that comes to mind is changing the fluid and checking the vent tube on the axle. Just to make sure that it is not clogged or the hose isn't bent over on itself. But then again I am kind of new to rear end maintenance.

Limited Slip Maintenance
Limited slip, not locking, axles use clutch plates and a preload spring. If it has more than 100,000 miles on it, these parts are probably worn out. The parts are not too difficult to replace, but it is more than just changing the oil and the special additive.
Some of the newer fluids claim to already contain the limited slip additive. Mine did chatter without the additive on Valvoline fluid.
