The one truck I have with the auto shift trans. the jake comes on automatically when it needs to. Been messing with trucks forever and never heard of bending a rod when shifting, the cats will break rocker arms sometimes if you jake at too high rpm, The rule of thumb is not let them get over 1800 while you are jaking.
We have been successfully designing exhaust brakes ever since the 6.9 and continue to right up to the 6.0L and soon 6.4L. There are no concerns with the engine or transmission damage if the brake is installed and setup correctly and installed with a transmission controller in the automatic applications.

Dave, you guys make 3" and 3.5" brakes for IDI trucks, and a 4" for PS trucks. How will the size of brake affect the performance in operation? I ask because if I have a 3" ATS downpipe and a 4" exhaust after that.

We offer a "Turbo Mount" Brake that mounts right on the turbo of a P/S we also offer a "Remote Mount" Brake for IDI's and other applications where there is no room to mount one up on the charger. The different sizes you are seeing are for different size exhaust kits on the remote mounts. So if you had 3" 3.5" or 4" exhaust we can accomidate.
