Who Knows the Code? Do YOU Know the Code?
ok. so i got my 91 f250 to throw a check engine light at me again after being reset when i disconnected the battery. turns out it does this after idling around in low gears. pulled the codes, got 11, 11, 13, 14, 1. is that last one just letting me know that the check is complete? or is it supposed to be a 141? and what, for sure, are the 13 and 14? i looked em up, at my truck never did the thirteen, so i want some reassurance here. thanks!

I hate those blinking lights... I can never seem to read them right so I purchased me a OBD1 scanner. Makes life much easier. You can pic them up for 20-40 bucks on ebay every now and then.

11 is not an error. Indicates a pass.
13 RPM out of range.
Check curb idle.
Check engine vacuum hoses.
Check that throttle plates can fully close.
Check throttle linkage and or speed control linkage for binding.
Clean IAC passages/clean throttle body.
If OK replace IAC (Idle speed control). Mounted on throttle body.
14 PIP Ignition profile pickup failure
Code 14 indicates two successive erratic profile ignition pickup pulses occurred resulting in a possible engine miss or stall. The PIP sensor is located inside the distributor. Looks like this. To replace it requires the distributor shaft be pressed off.

Tell me about it! My truck and 2 and 3 digit codes. I had two codes for TPS while back ago and i got all sort of codes even after doing it 4 times. It seems the more i read it the more codes i got... so i said screw this hopped in my little import and went across town and bummed a friends garage scanner which i later purchased.

I think it may be 11, 31, 41, which would be an all clear, EGR related code, and an O2 sensor switching not detected code, respectively.
Here is another website that may help to separate the blinks: EEC IV Self Test hookup
To each his own, but counting has never been much of a problem for me and I can put the $30 on something other than a code reader.

when checking the egr check the vac resevior too... looks like a tomato juice can with two vac lines connected to it. I just did this the other day and when I took it off the whole bottom was rusted out. Looked ok from the top though. I've read that alot of the egr codes can be caused by this or by a vac line and not necessarily the egr valve itself. good luck with all that though
