E40D Gearing
I searched and searched and couldn't find anything even close to what I want to know.
I want to know how my E40D is geared. Preferably my lowest gear and my highest gear in OD. I have a 4.11 gear ratio. Does this mean my lowest gear is 4.11?
Also, is there a reason why my truck feels like it's geared lower in Reverse rather than First in Drive or is that just in my head?
Thanks Guys and Gals
-Bill
Ps. If you don't know the answer, could you help point me in the right direction? I searched FTE and google but couldn't find SPIT.
1st: 2.71
2nd: 1.54
3rd: 1.00
4th: 0.71
In third gear, your effective gear ratio is 4.11. Your lowest effective gear ratio is about 11.14 in first gear (2.71 x 4.11) and your highest effective ratio is about 2.92 in 4th (0.71 x 4.11).

Edit: How did you find this information out?
I wish the C6 had the same 1-3 gearset as the E4OD. When I have the time and money to build my truck, I think I am going to get one of the high performance gearsets for it to go along with a gear vendors overdrive.

I put that link in my favorites. Thanks a lot!
Your truck looks awesome by the way, probably about the best looking Flareside I have seen.

140,000 is a lot of miles on a tranny. I don't know about the history on mine. I suspect it's previous owners probably had to work on it. It acts strange sometimes. So far it seems to be doing good though so I'm happy with that.
Thanks a lot, my truck is my baby! YouTube and pictures make my truck look spotless but it's not. It has a lot of dings and scratches but that's okay. I just try and keep her in good shape. It's kinda funny; my truck never creeked or rattled ever untill it hit that 200K mile mark. Once it did the cab started falling apart and I can hear my chasis creeking now.
Hey, we all get old sometime, our trucks are allowed to do so too!
Edit: I just looked through your gallery, you have a really good looking rig too!

The interior of my truck creaks and rattles too. I remember when the truck was new, it didn't rattle, but the noises started pretty early on. They don't bother me too much though, the interior looks almost new.
The big thing, is that over the last 15 years the truck has never broke down or failed to start. The only two major problems it has had is a rear fuel pump that has been dead for about 9 months, and the pinion bearing in the rear axle bit the dust because my grandfather ran it low on oil for years due to a small leak.
Other than that, it runs strong and is as dependable as anything. And, to top it off, I consider these the best looking trucks Ford ever made!

I agree with you. These are some of the best looking trucks Ford made. I think all Ford trucks look great, up to '96. Even the post '96 models look good. I can't say the same for Chebby. They really lost me on their newest model.
I have a couple of pictures of the truck when it was brand new, only a couple of months old with dealer plates still in the window, that I am going to try and get onto my gallery. They are not digital, so I have to scan them. One of them has me in it at age 9.
I have a hard time with the Superduties, I go back and forth between liking them and not liking them, I guess it depends on the truck. The newer F150s are pretty good when they are setup right, but I have not had a chance to get used to the '09s yet. The Chevys have not looked that good to me for a while. I do really like the 2005 Chevy Kodiak 4500 4x4 wrecker I drive at work. Its taller than hell, turns as sharp as a pickup, goes in the snow, tows anything you can put on the wheelift (a guy I work with got a 33' school bus on it!) and just looks mean!

Post those pictures! I want to see that Kodiak too. What do you do for a living exactly?
I think the exact same way as you do. The early '90s blend old school style with modern good looks. That's why I love two tone paint. Nobody does it anymore.
I've seen some modern F150's set up to look good. In a lot of cases all that is needed is decent rims. 18x12's look best to me (medium height and very wide). I love the look of dual tail pipes with chrome tips also. If you can close the wheel gap it looks even better. It's little touches that can make a truck look either plain or attractive. Some people take it too far. Big rims, weird looking lights, excessive chrome trim, other weird things I'm not bothering to mention. I say keep it simple!
I'm a truck man though. It's weird but I love to watch traffic. Trucks are my ****. I like to watch and listen to them.
I love everything automotive, my friends that aren't into trucks and my wife go nuts when they ride anywhere with me. I'm constantly commenting on every cool truck I see. That's why I love towing, I get to drive cool trucks, see interesting things people have done to their cars, and winch people out of some stupid situations. In addition to the Kodiak, I also drive a Sterling Acterra Jerr-Dan rollback with a 22' deck. Its got the 5.9 Cummins and that always satisfying Cummins sound.
