05 Expedition problems

Our Expedition is a 2005 limited. 5.4 L Automatic with advance tract. Saturday we filled up at a gas station we don't normally use, not too long after that I noticed a miss. It has got steadily worst the last few days. I figured we just got some bad gas. She finally had to fill up again yesterday, I had her add a bottle of heet just in case there was some water in the gas. Seemed to be get better untill this afternoon. I finally got home in time to pull codes I got P2196 02 sensor signal stuck rich bank 1 sensor 1, I also got a code P0304 cylinder 4 misfire detected. Another thing it is doing right now if you press on the gas it runs up to 3000 rpm very smoothly but then that is far as it will rev. it sets at 3000 rpm and drops to 2500 rpm. On the road it doesn't do that. Also while I was looking at it, it started smoking (white smoke) smelled like gas, but it comes and goes. Driving you will never see any smoke. Idling it smokes at times, I don't think it's anything major cause it only does it occasionally.

It's a built-in safety feature. Reving over 3K with no load on the engine, such as when in neutral or park, can blow an engine. This rev limiting feature is not in effect when the tranny is in gear.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know about that feature. But I not up to snuff on the newer stuff. That's the reason I come here when I have a problem. I wouldn't have found it if I hadn't of been slowly reving the engine to see if the miss went away.

Well this saturday I change the Plugs, boots and the coil on #4 (the cylinder I had the miss fire on). Plugs were not a real problem, followed ford's instructions and got 7 of 8 out without a problem. The plug on cylinder #2 broke. Picked up the tool at NAPA and got the shield out no problem. However I still have a missfire on #4. Tomorrow evening I'm going to swap the #4 injector out for #1, see if my missfire moves to #1. By the look at the plug on #4 it is getting excessive fuel. I'm also getting a bank 1 too rich code. Hopefully the missfire will move to cylinder 1 and a new injector will fix my problem.

I swapped the #4 and #1 injectors, funny it ran pretty good for a while after I changed the injectors but it didn't last long, however I did get a missfire on #1 and not #4. I went out and drove it awhile and when I got back I checked codes and I had (can't remember the code number right now) random multiple cylinder missfires. I changed out the fuel filter and that was some of the nastiest stuff I've ever seen. turned the filter up side down and a brown looking gas with some real fine grit came out. so I definately got some bad gas somewhere.

Wonder what kind of documentation I would need to prove the bad gas to the company I bought it from?

That is pratically impossible to prove. Their rebutle, they can somone may have put something in the tank.. I have sat on a couple of these cases and and the case was dismissed.

That's pretty much what I figured. I did write Valero customer relations, got an email back that they had forwarded it to the appropriate department. Figure that's the last I'll hear from them.
