I got talked into building a soap box derby car by a bunch of friends, who also built some. It's for an adults only race in my home town (Nazareth Adult Soapbox Racing Association). We'll see how my car does this year and modify it from there. It started out when my step daughters trampoline got destroyed in a wind storm and I had all this tubing laying around. Here is a link to the pics of the car (soap box car 09 pictures by 03scf250 - Photobucket), I'm painting it now so those pics will be added soon. Does anybody else here have uncommon hobbies or am I just crazy? I'm gonna change the body next year, wonder how hard it would be to make it look like a dentside .
looks pretty sweet,,i saw some of these on wreckreation nation on discovery,,some of these guys had brakes for each seperate wheel for superb cornering,,it was pretty cool
Painted it yesterday, now I'm gonna let my buddy airbrush his Archery shop logo on the back. Took it for a test run down the hill on my road since we have almost no traffic here. Everything seemed fine ,except that the solid wheels don't give a lot of grip. It goes straight just fine but it won't be turning very sharp. Good thing I made it like an arrow (fly straight and true), hopefully I don't spear the hay bales at the top of the run off hill.
Thanks for all the compliments, I had to push my 78 aside while i did this, I guess even the big kids need their toys. It was fun to build, relatively cheap, and good times with friends.
think ya need to go with some seriously canted bicycle wheels :P Get the grip and cornering, maybe wheels off a road bike, less contact surface thus less friction, but still better traction than what ya got this year.
:P
In college and broke, no hobbies, plannin on getting into dirt track racing after I am out.
Here are some pics from the race. It was a good time I didn't do so good only hit 28 mph winners were alot faster. It was nice to see Mario Andretti come out to be the flagman at the finish line. I guess it was only fitting that the winning car was made to look like Mario's 1969 indy car. Hope you all enjoy the pics . I plan on building an entirely new car for next year.09 soap box race pictures by 03scf250 - Photobucket
