ok, truck wouldnt fire, had to have it brought to the dealership. told me i have 2 bad glow plugs and a bad glowplug relay. 715 bucks is what they want. how hard are these to put in myself? lot of work or something just easier to pay to have it done? i didnt ask what the parts total was but what do these things run?
You can buy a set of 8 glow plugs for $65 and a GPR for $50. That means they are charging $600 for labor! It's an easy job, get your truck out of the dealership and do it yourself.
On edit- 2 bad glow plugs and a dead GPR won't keep the truck from firing unless its fah-reaking cold outside.
Do you want an absolute place, or just a list.. Autozone/ Napa/ International dealers/You name it, pretty common item.. The GPR ( glow plug relay) you may want to go out on line and find a Stancor, I believe it is 85.00, but you will not have to do it again.
The Bosch plugs may be Beru's... can't remember now.
Nobody has done a step-by-step yet that I know of... but its super easy. Remove valve covers (this is the hard part), unplug the wiring from the glow plug. Crack GP loose with a 1/4" drive 10mm deep well socket, then use a short piece of hose slipped over the end of the GP to spin it out the rest of the way (the socket will hang up on the injector if you try to screw the GP out all the way with the socket). Remove GP, reverse procedure for re-install.
Once you get the blasted valve covers off, it's a 20 minute job to change the GP's.
