E4OD Problems/ new to automatics

towards the end of a 400 mile trip, I was making my way through back roads with the OD off. Once on the main road and up to about 60 mph, I tried to kick on the OD, but to no avail. After 10 miles or so as I was climbing a steep hill, the OD off light began to blink. After I was over the top, I pushed the button again and it kicked into OD normally. On every upshift (under load) after this, the transmission attenps to shift but seems to get stuck in between gears, lugging the engine way down. once in gear, there is no slippage and when decending a hill or light accelleration, it shifts normally. I should also note that I had recently installed B&M's Shift Plus electronic shift improver and had been running it in position 1. I hope this explanation made sense as I am new to automatic transmissions and I would appreciate any help you can offer

Thanks,

Captntim

E4OD Problems/ new to automatics

new development with this problem: It seems that tranny does not have enough fluid pressure to complete the shift under load. I went out this evening and drove first with the B&M shift improver in the stock position (same hesitation between shifts) then, in position 2 (shifted as it would normally with no modifications). Given that the shift improver increases line pressure, is it possible this device wore out the pump. If there is such a pump, could it be prone to this type of failure and if so, is this easily replaced? Also, is a high flow or heavy duty version of this pump available in this application? Hope this better explains the problem.

thanks again

I really cant help you with your problem except to say that unless you have lot of metal floating around in your trans, the pump is probably okay. I dont see how the shift improver could cause the pump to go bad. Pumps usually last a very long time. I dont remember what year they upgraded and put in the higher volume pump, but it is quite expesive - several hundred I would guess - and most likely is not your problem. Or at least lets hope not. Sorry for the lack of help.
Good luck,
