If it leaks when it's running, in my experience, it's probably the front pump bushing. It'll leak alot more as you drive it too. The amount it leaks while idling is minute compared to the amount it leaks while driving. Fixing that should cure your problem

Check the vacuum line to the tranny for any fluid in it. It could be that the vacuum is sucking it back into the engine and you're burning it up in the engine.
I've had that happen before, and I'm sure if it was burning that much fluid, you wouldn't be able to see out the rear view mirror for all the white smoke.
I didn't know what it was at the time, so I pulled the head & had it rebuilt. MAN was I p!$$ed when I put it back on & it smoked me out right after I cranked it the first time!
Fortunately, it didn't take long to track it down after I eliminated the head (at a cost of ~!$100 ). That was in my first vehicle - a '76 Mustang II that I drove from LA to CA across the Mojave towing an EXTREMELY overloaded U-Haul trailer...
