some old questions

ok, so i am thinking about cutting my muffler out and welding in a straight pipe, will this sound bad(real loud?), and will it help milleage or exhaust temps out any? also, the guy i bought my truck off of ran the motocraft filter on it, and either 15w 40, or 5w 40 motocraft oil through it, i have a case of the 5w 40 in the garage just sitting there, but i always ran rotella through my dodge, so i like the thicker oil. someone told me that the motocraft oil will not foam up like the rotella will, i love rotella oil, anyways is the motocraft filter ok and good to use.

thanks everyone!

Straight piping the exhaust will be louder than stock but everyone's definition of loud is different. No mileage gains will be noticed but it will help it breathe better and help with EGT's. Rotella 5w40 Synth or 15w40 dino is what I have had used with great results. I highly recommend the 5w40 Synth. Don't know about the Motorcraft oil but their filters are just fine.

The exhaist wont be extremely loud but you will be able to tell a difference in the sound. There will be a little more drone sound and a little bore whistle when you get the RPMs up. If you have the oil i would go ahead and run it. Alot of us on here use totella 5-40 synthetic. Yea the motorcraft filter is a good filter and it is what i use on my truck. You should be fine.

Motorcraft filter and Rotella 15/40 here also. The Rotella will be fine in your truck.

sounds good? one shop says that you have to replace like 7 feet of the exhaust, the other shop says, no cut the muffler off and we can weld a small section of 4 inch in that spot, said it would be a lot cheaper.

you just need to cut out the muffler and replace it with 4" section, I'd go with the second shop.

a cheap lift would be 2.5 shackle lift. I'll try to find the ebay store for ya.

I tried several different local muffler shops & no one carried or could bend
3 1/2" pipe. I ended up ordering a pre-fab pipe from Pure Diesel Power 99-03 Ford 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel Stock Muffler Delete Pipe I bought the clamps, but ended up welding the pipe in place as it was hard for me to get enough pipe inside each end to clamp onto.
The sound is growing on me, but its definately louder than stock. I'm not so sure my neighborhood likes me when I come home from work at midnite.

There have been a bunch of posts on straight piping. The easiest way to do it is to cut out the muffler, then tacke off the pipe to the muffler and reinstalling it 180*. It will make the pipes line up so it will only need a straight piece of 3.5" flared and welded. That is how I did it and it only took around 35 to 40 minutes.

After doing this I noticed a 50 to 100* F drop in EGTs on average, depending on how I was driving.

2" lift for the front? Not necessarily the cheapest way to go, but I prefer a hanger/shackle kit like the one Pro Comp or Icon sells. Ideally, new springs are the way to go... definitely not cheap though.

As far as the lift goes, you could do a add a leaf. They run from $65 to $100 for the front. Most of the time the front sit two to three inches lower than the rear, so leveling the front will make a big difference.
