Website question.

I'm a gov't contractor and I travel significanty throughout the year making computer access sometimes impossible especially when I am flying cross-country in helicopters. I like the comrodery of this forum and the wealth of information provided here so I have somewhat of a request. I usually use a blackberry smartphone to access the site but it is very slow as www.ford-trucks.com has very large, nice looking pages. These don't exactly jive with smartphones operating on the mobile web as the connection speeds and the java software operate differently. It works, just not very well. www.ford-trucks.com is a very "different" forum electronically whereas my blackberry will not keep me logged in as it doesn't use standard "cookies".

My question is, what would it take to "enable" the wap/mobile version of the website? There are several other forums that use the VBulletin software that have a "http://m.*******.com" or "http://wap.*******.com" alternate website such as zxtuner(.)com (auto-detects mobile device and switches accordingly) and crackberry forums. The admin folks at those sites say that the mobile/wap forums are basically text only and take up a very small amount of space in comparison to a standard forum. If you click here => CrackBerry Mobile or here => BlackBerryForums.com : Your Number One BlackBerry Community the browser takes you to a simple wap website index, from there you can see the simplicity of the forum as it basically "leeches" the info from the standard forum. All post functions are similar save for posting pics which you cannot be done from the mobile device. This just makes browsing and posting to the site nicer for many of us that don't have the time to get to a computer.

Is this possible?

Thanks,
J

There is a mobile version of the site:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...-the-site.html

According to the info in this thread, it is supposed to be able to detect when you are using a mobile browser. If that's not the case, I would suggest opening a trouble ticket here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/support/open.php

I don't think it's auto-detecting mobile devices or the mobile portion isn't working with the "new" forum update that was performed recently.

Just tried it on three different phones. A Blackberry 8830WE, a Palm Treo and a HTC. They all go to the regular website. I don't think the mobile forums are working.

HELP!!! Please!!!

The feature was added after the most recent software update. Your best bet would be to open a support ticket.

Sorry I do not know of any mobile web service we have.

I have read that there is a mobile web addition to the site and that when www.ford-trucks.com is entered into a mobiles browser that the site will switch automatically to a WAP style page. It is not working. I have tried this on a Blackberry 8830WE, Palm Treo and a HTC. None of which will point ot a mobile page. I would use this feature significantly as I travel often and the normal website doesn't "jive" with mobile devices well. Is there an actual "m.ford-trucks.com" address or anything else I can try? I enjoy using this site but do not have access to a computer very often. Thank you.

We hope this response has sufficiently answered your questions. If not, please do not send another email. Instead, reply to this email or login to your account for a complete archive of all your support request and responses.
