Question 1: I want my X to sound like it has some *****, ive already put a 40 series flowmaster and that gave it a little rumble at idle but at WOT it sounds like a jet so my buddy says. what do I have to do? bypass the converter? or something?
Question 2: At first start up in the morning I get this constant thud feeling from the floor until its at normal operating temps then its gone. its a random beat thudding, and you cant hear it from the outside. any ideas?
Question 3: I know this isnt a eco vehicle but according to the avg mpg display i get a average 6 mpg in the city and 10.5 mpg on the hwy, and i know with a 8 inch lift and 37x13.50R17s is gonna suck gas but, those numbers just seem a little umm crazy!! for comparison does any one have a simular set up, and what is your avg mpg? thanks guys
#1, programmable or cable operated cut outs would certainly make it louder. It really depends on what you want it to sound like. For a deep throaty muffler I like Spintech and Dynomax.
#2, if you can't hear it from the outside, it's probably a bad bushing. Check the motor mounts and trans mount. Then try the cab mounts.
#3 you speedo is probably off, 37s should have quite abit of roll out. I have 35s in my 5.4L, mixed city/country is normally around 10.4, the lowest I've seen is high 7s and interstate is 12-15 with a once only 19.
#1..it's funny that your Flowmaster 40s sounds like a jet. That was what I thought as I have the same muffler, but then again, I also work for an airline, so I didn't know if it was just me.
#2..no idea
#3..as indicated by the computer, mine gets around 7mpg for city, and about 9mpg for freeway. Again, that's indicated by the computer. Keep in mind, my axle gears are still the stock 4.30, and I have 41" tires. If you were to do the math on it comparing with the stock size tires of about 31.5" or so, you should add about 23% to it for my truck. On yours, you should add about 15% as a better rough estimate (assuming you have 4.30 as some are 3.73 I believe).
So your 6 is now closer to 7mpg for city. And your 10.5 is more like 12mpg. Not great, but considering the taller stance of the truck from the lift (less aerodynamic), and the larger size foot print of the tires (extra mass and rolling resistance), it's about right for the V10 that weighs about 7k pounds.

I had a FM40 on my 2000 with the stock pipe. At WOT it DID sound like a jet. Best thing to do would be to increase the size of the tailpipe. 3.5" really deepens the tone.
I have a 4 in turbo back cat free system on my diesel and it sound like a fan at idle, just a quite swish. No sound at all can be heard inside while driving. The engine makes more noise than the exhaust

dont take my word for it but i think you got robbed on that exhaust, a buddy of mine has cummings and he got a cat back and its loud as hell!!
