I am putting an auto tranney in my 78 f-350 crewcab 4x4 I'm restoring. I have a good tranney from a 79 f-250 4x4 snowfighter, and a 78 f-150 4x4. the f-250 tranney has the long adapter, and the f-150 tranney has the short adapter. is there any differenced in the transmissions other then the tailshaft length? Are the gears the same? Thanks for any help, just want to know the best one to use.
Internals are the same, only difference is the length of the tail shaft.
I'm sure you know that there were no F-350 crewcab 4x4's produced? Biggest crewcab 4x4 was on an F-250 chassis. The F-350 4x4 also didn't come into production till model year 79.
yeah, I started with a 78 f-350 crew cab longbed, but converted the frame to 4x4, I have both tranneys, but have a 87 t-case that has both driveshafts for a crew longbed 4x4 that I want to use. It will only work on the f-150 tranny, guess I'll go that route.
I wish they would have built a factory crew longbed 4x4, but alot of people have built their own, so far it's not to terrible to do, we'll see how it turns out.
