5.0L gasket question
I have a '86 F150 with a 5.0L. I have a couple questions for you guys. First off, what is the best Valve Cover Gasket to use (cork, rubber)?? Second of all, I took my truck to a garage to check out what all was leaking (oil leaks) on my truck. They told me that my lower intake gasket was leaking. Now, to my knowledge all that was leaking was my valve cover gaskets and I'm not sure about the bottom end cause of all the oil coming from the valve covers. I'm NOT loosing any coolant. So, why would they tell my lower intake gasket is leaking when there is no sign of coolant anywhere?? I might be stupid, but I didn't think the lower intake could leak oil??

Gaskets
I like the re-usable valve cover gaskets from Earls because they wont leak and you dont have to worry about over tightening them.And the lower end gaskets tend to leak when they get old, that`s why builders now prefer a bead of silicone on the ends.

Get steel core ruber coated valve cover gaskets and you'll never have a leak again. The lower intake seals the lifter valley as well as the heads, so it could leak oil as well as coolant, just depends what area you are talking about.
