Got My New X

Last Thursday my dealer delivered my X. It is an 03 XLT V10 with 4.30. The truck has 70,000 miles on it. I had posted a few questions and concerns and received some great info. Today I had a former Ford Dealership mechanic take a look at it and the report was better than I had expected.

I had posted that I was hearing a fluttering sound at certain speeds and RPMS. The mechanic found heat shield vibrating by the exhaust. He put a clamp on it and the sound is now gone.

He found no leaks what so ever under/in the engine compartment. he said the pumpkin on the rear differential was a little wet, but nothing he would worry about. He also thought the differential had recently been changed with synthetic.

He did find two broken manifold bolts. He said there were 20 bolts total. He said if it was his, he would leave it for now. He said it can be somewhat of a pain to try and get the bolts out. Any opinions on this? Should I wait for more to break?

He did tell em the tires were cupped. He said someone must have overfilled them and that caused the cupping. He said the tread still looked ike ti had another 15,000+ miles on it, if not for the cupping. Can I still tow a 6,500 lb TT with cupped tires, or is this a safety issue?

The ball joints looked good and he wondered if they may have already been replaced.

He last comment was "Whoever had it took very good care of it, it's very clean.

I also found out that it was titled to the US Coast Guard in Duluth. I am guessing the coast guard probably kept up on regualr mantenance.

My mind is now at ease.

Congrats on the great find.
I wouldn't worry about 2 out of 20 bolts, just keep an eye on it.

As for the tires, if they are still in good shape keep the air pressure at the factory level, but many people(including me) run the tires up a lot higher for towing/driving, so may be another issue with the steering - might have been corrected if they replaced the ball joints.

Enjoy - and post some pics

Congrats on your new Ex. How about some pics? As far as the broken manifold bolts, the more that break the more of a pain you will have to deal with and chances are more will break just removing the manifold / manifolds to repair the broken two. If it were me that would be the first item to address.
