HELP? What am I missing? My alternator has been bench tested and is good. I have Brand New Batteries. I replaced the 3 wire pigtail and the one wire as well and the tested the voltage and it is good. The grounds appear to be good but when I start the truck the alt does not charge until the truck runs for some time then it starts charging. Turn the truck off and the cycle starts again. Now it sometimes will not start to charge at all even after being run for quite awhile. I followed all the test procedures and cannot identify the problem. Has anybody else experienced this?

Could your glow plug relay be sticking? Normally it will stay on as long as 90 sec IIRC, depending on temperature. The ammeter needle will show a discharge as long as the GPR is energized. If the GPR is bad it could be staying on a lot longer. Every time you start the truck the GPR will energize a while. After the truck is warmed up, disconnect one of the GPR primary wires (little ones) and see if the symptom continues. If it's warm it should start without the GPs coming on. The GPR is under the big plastic cover, near the front of the engine on the passenger side - just to the right of the pass side valve cover (as you stand in front of the truck looking under the hood.)

I'll try that but the relay is a brand new Stancor so I don't know if that is the problem.Thank you for the suggestion.

Changed out GPR and I still get the same problem. I also have to plug in the truck for the first start of the day. Batteries are new, alternator is good, gp are new, gpr is good. Could this be the pcm? Is there a code reader available to scan a 95 F250 powerstroke?

I would still suspect the alt, have you put a meter on it ?..
The alt waits 30 or so seconds before it begins to charge normally ...
GPS will add to that on the gauge unless its not cold
GP on time is set by EOT, primarily . May have an issue with EOT sender ...(just a WAG)

Yes I have, but only on one vehicle. It was on my 85 ford F150. Turned out it was the ignition switch not returning completely from the "Start" position to the "Run" position.
sometimes the harness on top of the alternator gets a poor connection... is your warning light for the batteries coming on at all while you're driving?
