I am looking at buying a 2001 F250 V-10 with 120k and noticed that the indicator on the dash where it shows if your in park/reverse/drive etc is a little off of the actual postion. What does that exactly mean? Is the transmission bad?
This is the same for me too. Also, on mine, the shifter is really sloppy- like when in a position (P, N, D, etc) it can be moved around a lot. It hasn't caused any issues, it jsut bugs me. Any way to tighten the assembly up?

Yours sounds like some worn out linkage all right. Maybe some bushings that need replaced. I would take a look at everything as you get someone to go thru the shift positions and reproduce what you are seeing.
Be sure to put the e-brake on and maybe chalk the wheels because you will need to crawl under the truck to see the action as the shifter is moved.

So, that should not be that big of an issue as long as it shifts good. It is going to be a pet peave for sure.
The shift pointer is usually moved by a small cable and a spring on the other side of the pointer, where the cable exits the outer covering their is a small thumb wheel to adjust the pointer on the coloum side. If you remove the colume, upper and or lower cover you can see the wheel. i have an extra speedo assembly in my garage if i get a chance i can take a picture so you can see what i mean.

That is Perfect. It looks painless enough to try and fix. Thank Again.......
I was incorrect- only supporters can post attachments.
You need to create a gallery, upload the pictures to there, and then link to the gallery pic from your post.
I will have to give that a sjot, i know when you hit insert image it ask for a url address, so i could put in the address to the pic on webshots or another online photo gallery.
Thank you
