I am building a 390 (as my sig says) and am currently running a C6 behind a 360. I would like to swap this with an AOD in my truck, (see sig) to get an overdrive gear. Is this possible, will it require an adapter, or is it bolt in? Any other concerns? There's a junkyard full of 'em by where I live...
The FE has a unique bolt pattern and there are no factory bellhousings that will let you bolt the two up. There are some aftermarket ones out there but they are rare and I can't remember where I saw them.
Thanks man. I dont feel like buying an aftermarket bellhousing, but would it be possible to put a lock-up torque converter on my C6? I'm gonna need a new one with my new motor anyway.
Don't waste your time with a scrappy special. Even the '88-93 boxes need mods, esp to hold up to a 390, esp if it's anything other than a 360 with a 390 decal on the aircleaner.
AOD to FE adaptor here, bring $850 for the AOD, $875 for a GM 700r, arguably a better trans. Scroll down about half way:
I assume you are rich as you are building a 390 with $5 gas on the horizen. But even if I was spending your money, I wouldn't spend $3000 for one of those, I spend it on a Gear Vendor unit, bolt it to the C6 & and save the adaptor/linkage/cooler/shifter/other headaches.
