wont turn over using key
I have a 1989 f-250 with a 7.3l. When I turn the key, it wont turn over. all the lights and glow plugs come on ok, but it seems like the rod doesnt push the ignition switch far enough. I have already tried adjusting the switch's position. Is there any way to maybe adjust the rod that pushes the switch or maybe is there a part wearing down?

There is a part in the column called the ign. switch actuator. It is made of soft metal and is prone to break. It connects the key switch to a rod that runs down the column to the ign/start switch under the dash.
To get at it you have to pull the steering wheel, then the turn signal switch plate and then the column shroud. The actuators for the tilt and regular columns are different but on ly cost around $6.00
