Actually I have a 9 3/8 rear in my 51 (it being a derivative of the 9") and it went in and hooked up without any mods (some brake line and drive line mods of course)!
Of course there may have been frosty adult beverages involved - so hopefully the other guys will be along to confirm or dispute!
I install a 1971 F250 DANA 60 3.73 ratio DOTA-AK 603124-5. I was able to use my original shock mounts, you will need to grind off the ones on the nine inch, they interfered with the originals. if you need to find out what the pinion angle is before grinding. You flip the original shock mounts around, right on left side, left to right. Find angle, remove, grind, paint, have pinion angle shim made, then install. I kinda painted before checking any interference . I can upload some photo's if you need them
I'm still afraid to get it above eighty, the fifty year old center bearing did not like that kind of speed. Had to limp home. It was falling apart , had to replace it.
Right now thou when I find the time, I'm trying to get the vacumm and timing adjusted.
