Over heating

Hello to everyone. It's been quite awhile since I have posted. My truck was buried in about 4ft of snow for most of the winter. Just got the father in law to use his works bob cat to dig it out for me. All winter without being started, touched the gas twice turned the key and she fired right up. The wore out glass pack exhaust was music to my ears. Now my problem. I let it warm up for about 10-15 minutes and the temp gauge went immediately to hot. I got it the two or three blocks I needed to go with it and shut it down. There is steam coming out from behind the alternator and water dripping from the passenger side of the block kind of underneath the exhaust manifold, can't see exactly where but thats what it looks like. Could I have just popped freeze plugs or is it something more serious? My old posts might show that last summer I had overheating troubles but it seemed to have cleared up after a flush and fill of the radiator and tune up. Any ideas? 74 f100- 302- 2wd- no a\c - auto

If you lost a freeze plug, you'd be losing a lot of coolant. Some kind of seal went somewhere, you'll have to investigate where. You need to install a mechanical guage to see exactly how hot you're running while diagnosing this problem. When your truck sat over the winter, did you have at least a 50/50 mix of antifreeze?

Sometimes an old freeze plug gets corroded (Probably by old anti-freeze which becomes corrosive with age) and leaks fairly slowly, it doesn't necessarily have to "pop out" to leak.
