i have no experience with sound systems but i was wondering if it is at all possible to mount a 10" sub with an amp into the factory radio i dont want to have to replace the head unit so i was just wondering if anyone had done it. oh yea its on a 2005 ford ranger edge (non tremor package) with a factory single cd mp3 player
Sure. You have two options, you can get an amp with speaker level inputs or you can get a LOC (line out converter). I used a LOC on mine and retained the stock 6disc head unit.
To make a very nice install, pick up the vehicle and radio side harnesses. Splice all of the wires to together by color, but add a length of speaker wire to each of the rear pairs and an extension for the remote wire. This makes the loc and remote plug and play, so pull the radio, run the wires and hook the radio back up using the new harness adapter. Find a nice spot to mount the LOC, I used the pass side kick panel so I could get to the gain control on it without pulling the dash. Connect the LOC to the new wires you ran from the adapter and plug in RCAs which also go to the amp. And run your power and new remote wire back to the amp on the other side of the truck.
