I took the plunge this weekend, and did some grinding on the range shift rail on the '78 NP 205 transfer case going into my '91, so that I can use 2-Lo rear drive independently of the front.
My thought: 8-to-1 Reverse in the 4-spd, x 2-to-1 in the T-case, x4-to-1 in the axle: 64-to-1 overall reduction, reverse!
Boy, is it going to be easy to stick that 27-footer in camping slots-drop the clutch, and let it idle backwards, lots of time for corrections, just like the 18-wheel guys do.
