k my 04, 350 4x4 has the stupid 4x4 switch instead of the lever ,,,,this is probobly not the issue here.....but when i put this thing into 4x4 i instantly hear and feel a grinding comeing from the front driver side it increases with speed, and does not go away when switched back into 4x2, only goes away if i come to a stop put it in 2x4 back up for a bit and then it goes away....also when its makeing this sound and vibration it seams to make my stering eratic a bit.....it sounds like when you were a kid and put a baseball card in your spokes of your bike....only its deff metal parts...i have had a few local shops look at it and all anyone can tell me is that i should turn the 2,500 watt stereo up and it goes away....obviously this is not the answer,,,,has anyone else had this issue
well my hubs are either lock or auto ,,,,,and either way it does the same thing .....i was thinking that an actuator or something on the driverside was not allowing the shaft to move all the way back ....im really not sure,,,,plus i have these aftermarket balljoints with the greasfitings,,,and on my U-joints i can see a witness mark were its just barely tuching it ,,,does that U-joint set up move in and out when you activate 4x4.....or is it stationary? cause that side is the only side i get the sound from and the only side with this witness mark....and again i have had this to every mechanic in the area ...not that there is many, and nobody seems to think anything of this sound ,,,,
could be u-joints. your driveshaft doesnt move untill you put it in 4x4 and your hubs are vacuum actuated. if its from the drivers side it could be you u-joints or a t-case issue. its chain driven so that could be the sound your hearing. hows you diff & T-case oil look?
well the local shop had my T-case out and apart completely...said nothing was wrong with that ...they did replace something and i forget what its called but its where the u-joints atach to the shaft itself ,,,they said that was bad...and to be honest it did make a difference...but all it did was make it quieter....i would think if the u-joints themselfs were bad they would have noticed it...i think im gonna try and take the grease fitting out today and take it for a quik ride and see if it is just rubbing on the fitting...i hope thats it but i dought it ...mabey ill see about cheackin the bearings while im in there too ...
