Flashing 4x4 on dash??

Flashing 4x4 on dash??

1999 expedition 5.4
have a situation where the 4x4 light flashes when in awd when I go to 4 hi and 4 low it stays on! Need a really good answer on where to start!! Ive done some cheching but am not very secure with the answers I have found. So I have come to the forum that should have an answer for me, thanks for your help in advance.

It's likely the shift motor down on the transfer case is dead and stuck in 4WD.

I had this occur on our 1998 EX. It turned out to be the speed sensor. It was at the transfer case. The shift motor was not replaced. Of course, the sensor was replaced under warranty. This is just a lead....
