LMAO, I can't tell you an exact weight of each tire, but i weighed the X about 3 months ago with a full tank, and just me and i believe the ticket was printed said 8,990lbs. I think i have gained about 20lbs since then.lol. Heavy X but with those 5.38 it moved pretty damn good. I think a lot of people would be surprised. Just a little frustrating when people say things like "something was wrong with your truck if your getting 7mpg". But hey everyone has an opinion, not my fault theres is wrong

As I noted, I really dont know - I dont have the background in super-faat tires to know what I am talking about.

Would never think of "raising" and/or adding very much larger tires to mine. We have, apparently, vastly different priorities & uses for our EX's as to why we bought, set-up, & operate them.

If you are correct that the additional weight of those big wheels, dropped the mileage of a PROPERLY MAINTAINED V-10 down to what I get pulling 11,000 lbs of boat and trailer.......i certainly am in no position to argue, other to wonder why in hell anyone would do that ?

Hmmm...guess there is ONE advantage to a "raised" EX..maybe I will re-think it. My wife has really nice legs. Would be fun to watch her try to get in and out of a "raised" EX, 'specially in a mini-dress. Hmmm..maybe it isnt that dumb an idea after all.....

If my primary use of my vehicle was to go "swamping", I sure as hell wouldn't pick a tug-boat as large and as heavy as an EX. If I wanted to go rock-climbing, same deal, with the additional provision is I'd want a much shorter-wheelbase vehicle.

I can see that. But folks like a particular thing and then go from there. I'm sure his truck, while capable, was more for his enjoyment than anything else. If it's lifted 17" with 44s or lowered with 20s or stock, doesn't matter. A person can do what he likes to his vehicle, for the most part.

However, given the amount of time, thought and money that went into his truck I'm sure he didn't build it to be a swamper or a rock-crawler. That it CAN drive down a river or climb over some rocks was probably an added bonus.

Everything comes with a cost attached and lifting comes with a larger fuel bill.

Lifting yours to check out your wife's legs might mean others will check her out as well...

take a rope and attach a 5lb weight to it. now mark 15 inches on the rope = to about the stock tire size. now spin that weight around in a circle at whatever RPM you can manage probably be about 60 rpm... 1 spin per second... how much effort did it take???

Now change the weight to 10 lbs assuming the 44's weight double the stock tires.. (they are probably more) and lengthen the rope to 22 inches to match the 44 " tire radius and spin the rope and weight again at the same RPM you did the first time... How much more effort was required...

Now for the science experiment part you add a large fish scale on the rope and modify the rope length for the scale length. as you repeat the experiment you will notice that the value will be more than triple...
Also you will see that the fish scale will not show 5 and 10 lbs respectively..

Then you go the the math or physics teacher and have them help you find the formulas to explain how the increased diameter and increased weight affected by centrifugal force and rotational mass have created this phenomenon .....

Hopefully that makes sense for ya

I am getting confusder and confusder - why cant the guy moan about what our govt. is up to ? I think he's right, and I think this IS the place to worry about it. Sure I think guys who go put on "monster" tires and/or raise the center-of-gravity of their EX's are nuts at best, but I couldn't agree more it is their RIGHT to screw up their vehicles.

Since this "thread" is about a guy who had to get rid of his EX, because he screwed it up so bad it got only 7 miles per gallon, why NOT discuss related issues.

As I have admitted, and others have noted, I remain ignorant & confused as to HOW he screwed it up so bad it gets only 7 mpg. It's my RIGHT to make fun of that.

But I sure as hell wouldn't want the govt. telling him he couldnt do that to his own private property, or telling me I couldn't do the "mods" I did to mine (corrected the idiotic lack of a heavy-duty sway-bar, and added air bags to control riding height when I use my EX what I bought it for).

But there are strong forces at work, who LIKE the very idea of power, HATE us guys with fancy toys, and would love to screw US up.

Hopefully it will stay a free country, and we will all remain free to screw up on our own, to our heart's desire.

Did I not explain it clear enough? I can draw a picture for you but I may not be able to use Crayons.

There are MANY laws already that govern what you can and cannot do to your truck. In many states the Excursion we're talking about would not be street-legal due to height.

Southpaw,

Thanks for the explanation. Makes perfect sense. I just never knew that a mathematical principal had been applied to it.

Just FYI i towed my C6 corvette from california to texas and got 7mpg. You may not believe it but that 7mpg is universal.lol.highway,city,towing, all at 7mpg. I did use my X for X like things, towing, pulling people out of ditches, being stuck etc. Taking trips cross country.Another bonus with a lifted vehicle is 1 its a ****ING ***** wagon, which is funny to see how many slutty women throw themselves at you.secondly you can see all the little boobies when you look down through the sunroofs.=) The vehicle was fun when i was single and younger, but now my priorities are changing. My Gf of 3 years is starting to harp about marriage, and after that we all know comes the kids so, yes my life is about to be over.=(

One other thing, I got a GREAT deal on the escalade. Its a 1 owner, accident free with all maintenance records. I'm not a dumb car owner who just all the sudden wanted to get rid of the X. I love that X and always will it was my first attempt at doing a lift and someday when im able to I will buy another ford and do it all over again probably bigger. The X was THE BEST VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED. Never left me stranded, always got where i needed to go. I even broke a shock hanger and was able to drive home 300 miles with my shocks dragging on my 44's. i will own another ford truck but like i said with which way my life is going right now i just can't afford it and i thought that unloading it now while i had a good offer was something we couldn't pass up.

Know one knows where this economy is going, hopefully up but people won't be able to spend money on stupid stuff like that. I made out with a couple grand in my pocket and a 2003 escalade. Yes i didn't get what i put in it, but if you think you CAN get what you put into a vehicle you are insane. I did what i thought was right at the time and only time will tell if i was wrong or not.

[quote=Snurtle;7354036]. You may not believe it but that 7mpg is universal.
. . . . . . . .
WRONG - it is probably typical/"universal" for guys like you and I WHEN WE ARE TOWING VERY HEAVY LOADS. Unless i read that guy's "post" wrong, he was selling his EX because it got 7 mpg with NO MENTION of towing like you and I do.

. . . . you can see all the little boobies when you look down through the sunroofs . . .

. . . . .DAMN...You guys with the grossly "lifted" trucks are RIGHT. I am STUPID STUPID STUPID. Going to "lift" my EX right now. BRING ON THE BOOBIES......!

. . .

Gf of 3 years is starting to harp about marriage, and after that we all know comes the kids so, yes my life is about to be over.

NO NO NO..MARRIAGE IS GREAT . If you've got the right girl, you will decide you are ONE LUCKY GUY. But let me give you some EXPERT info on MARRIAGE.

See...there is a GOOD part...and a BAD part...about being married.

Here's the deal. The GOOD part of being married....is you always have a woman around the house....

The BAD part of being married...is...you always have a woman around the house !

My best wishes, congrads... and GOOD LUCK ! iT can WORK! If your marriage turns out to be 1/8th as much fun as ours...YOU OUGHT TO BE ARRESTED !
