While driving down the high way the motor will start bogging but it will be rapid. Bog for half second and than power and repeat. The only way to cure it is to floor it but if you let the rpm's lower again your back to square one. My parents are leavin town this weekend so I would like to fix the problem before hand just for reliability needs. I think it may be a clogged cat or misfire. Has anyone had anything similiar that I could get some advice? Thanks
Thanks for the fast responses. I will try what you both mentioned.
Another thing, the Oil pressure gauge likes to ride L when at a stop sign. I was told it would not be the oil pump because of how fast it jumps back up. Just throwin this in incase it could be affecting the bogging.
i would say no on the oil preasure thing afecting anything like that...im not a mechanic myself but i have had a few vehicles in the past that just did that all the tim .....really low preasure when at an idle at very low rpm...but spiked up to atleast normalwhen ya get on it ....personal i think its not a problom....

Have the pressure checked with a mechanical gauge. The gauge in your instrument cluster is nothing but a glorified on/off lamp. If everything is working correctly, it means your hot idle pressure is under 6psi. You could have a need to add oil, you could have a very common clogged oil pickup or you might be nearing time for a rebuild.
You don't want to mess with that though.
I test drove a '94 that did the same thing, and when I checked the pressure with a known reliable mech gauge, it was dropping to THREE PSI! I wasn't in the mood for a rebuild, so I walked away from that one.
Heres a small update: That bogging just went away over night. I am so stuck right now.
At the moment when looking at the motor while running, the harmonic balancer is thrown off and wobblin left to right. When you get on the gas and let off it sounds as if it is a diesel, almost like a metal to metal scratching sound. The oil pressure goes to **** after the motor warms up. Having all new everything coolant system replaced the motor still over heats. I am at my end here. Would my best bet be to find a new motor? I know we have an older 400 motor in the 78 Ford but could that be dropped in with my trans?
Sounds like the low oil pressure is the bottom end is shot. If your lucky you MIGHT be able to get away with new main bearing. However if there is that much damage and you can see the crank wobble I would bet the crank is pretty chewed up too. With out looking at the motor myself or hearing it run I would say you do not have much time before it just stops. Your bogging could be a full blown crank lock up. With that much play and the sound you might have spun your mains and once it heats up its trying to lock up.
