I am in the process of replacing a cracked head on my 91 300. I bought a head from an 88 or 89. My question is this:The new head does not have, for lack of a better term, an exhaust rail. This is a tube that looks to draw exhaust from each exhaust port and is piped into the air pollution system. So will the engine sensors work correctly if this is plugged. How much of a problem, if any, is this?
I guess it must be the A.I.R. Manifold tube as you point out. What are the ramifications of installing a head without it on an engine that has had one?
From the dates shown on page 103 I'd have to assume the earlier model had it incorporated into the exhaust manifold.
(I'm sorry, I am no expert in the inline 6)
The A.I.R. system pumps air into the exhaust plumbing to facilitate more complete combustion.
I really don't know what the O2 sensor will see, or what it will do to your fuel injection.(other than lean it in an attempt to correct the mixture)
I imagine you are in Guam?
Is there a chance you can get the exhaust manifold that was attached to this head?
There are others on this board far more knowledgeable than me with regard to your engine.
Hopefully Subford or someone else will chime in.
