It was warm today so I turned a/c on my 97 eb i just bought. Previous owner said it worked great and hade a receipt where he had it recharged and checked back in june. It wouldnt blow cold at all. heck the air outside was cooler. The clutch is kicking on and off like it should so I lean towards its low on freon. But if thats the case it probably has a leak. Let me know what you all think. owner said it worked good last week. Sounds strange to me!!
My first guess is that it may be low on freon. Bset to have some run put some leak finder in it, add some charge then use a specialty light to look for leaks. But if the clutch i kicking on and off, thats telling me that it isn't too low on freon.
The clutch is not supposed to cycle on and off. It cuts out when the low side pressure drops into the unsafe zone as a safety precaution, so that the compressor doesn't seize. If yours is cycling then it is low on refrigerant.
My ac stopped working on my 98. I brought it in and they said the levels are fine but the clutch is bad. They said that i should replace the whole compressor instead of just the clutch. My question is does the system need to be discharged to remove the clutch on the Expedition?
