I believe its a 10mm hold down bolt ,pull the plug, remove the bolt ,pry it out with a screwdriver. Wipe it off, oil the o-ring restall and try it or install a new one . Make sure you get the one for the rear diff. some times it's listed as a rear ABS sensor.
Definitely try cleaning it first. If that doesn't solve it, I'd check the wiring harness over real close before replacing anything. Sometimes people get to monkeying with wires installing a camper plug or whatever, and if the wiring harness running to the rear of the truck isn't tied up nice and tidy-like you may have a broken wire. If the wiring checks out, try a new VSS. If that's not the problem, it's likely in the speedo itself.
yep, yep. tried cleaning it and cant find any break in the wires, however i'll double check that before buying a new vss. if anyone is curious, that part is 29.05 straight from ford. if that all doesnt work out, i'd hate to see the price of a new guage cluster
Had the same problem.. turned out to be a bad dashboard. $700. Could also be bad GEM. any other symtems such as pdl, dome lights stay on, cig lighter ect. will most likely be bad gem. $500+
